Highlighted below are some of the key trends I see education is moving towards in the context of embedding creativity into the education paradigm. A large part of our education system still functions on a model that was built for the industrial age - focussing on a narrow set of academic abilities, conformity, standardization and information assimilation. However, there is a growing recognition for the need for change - towards greater creativity, to build knowledge, skills and abilities for a world that needs new thinking and innovation. Education should fundamentally facilitate the discovery of the student's creative potential. While still an exception, these trends are encouraging and give us a ray of hope on the shift needed in education.

What if education experience can be designed along intellectual abilities?
Education can be designed to develop thinking, reasoning, perception, and enablling students to learn how to learn. The Structure of Intellect is a model of human intelligence proposed by J P Guilford. The model is a system of more than 120 separate intellectual abilities, based on all possible combinations of five categories of operations (cognition, memory, divergent production, convergent production, and evaluation), with four categories of content (figural, symbolic, semantic, and behavioral) and six categories of products (units, classes, relations, systems, transformations, and implications). What if learning is driven by a process of enquiry owned by the learner?
Enquiry-based learning gives learners control over the learning process and teachers act as facilitators focussed on fostering an environment curiosity and exploration. Students learn to raise relevant questions, probe deeper and engage personally with the content.
